Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on 01/25/2025 at approximately 0634 hour, his deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle crash, in the area of M 62 and Yankee St., Jefferson Township, Cass County Michigan.
 
 The investigation showed that a vehicle driven by Alonzo King Jr (23 years old from Goshen, IN) was northbound on M 62 when he left the roadway and stuck a tree. King’s vehicle then reentered back onto the roadway and came to rest in the southbound lane.  Another vehicle driven by Maxwell  VanGoey (26 years old from Vandalia, MI) was Southbound on M 62 when he came upon King's vehicle in the roadway and swerved to avoid it. VanGoey's vehicle left the roadway, landing in a ditch and striking a tree. King was transported by SMCAS Ambulance to Niles Lakeland Hospital for injuries sustained in the traffic crash. VanGoey was checked by EMS on scene and released.
 
 
Assisting agencies on scene were SMCAS Ambulance, Ontwa/Edwardsburg Police Department, Edwardsburg fire and Michigan State Police.
 
 All subjects were wearing their seatbelts, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
 
The crash remains under investigation.
