On Sunday (1/26), around 10PM, Novato Police Officers were on patrol in the area of Redwood Blvd. and Escallonia Dr. when they observed a man riding a bicycle without proper lighting equipment. Officers made a traffic stop and contacted the rider.
 
During the bicycle stop, a nearby resident on Lotus Ct. called NPD Dispatchers and reported her bicycle was just stolen from her garage. Dispatchers obtained a description of the bicycle and provided it to officers, which confirmed the rider was involved in the burglary.  
 
The male rider was identified as Rudy Ipina-Guerra, a 26-year-old San Rafael resident. Officers recovered evidence at the scene confirming Guerra stole the bicycle from the residence and the bicycle was returned to its rightful owner. The investigation also revealed Guerra had an active warrant for his arrest from Sonoma County. Guerra was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for burglary, possession of stolen property, probation violation, and the warrant.
 
We want to thank the victim for promptly reporting this crime to help our officers quickly recover the stolen property, leading to a positive outcome for all. NPD Officers are proactively working in the community day and night to help reduce criminal activity.
 
This case serves as a good reminder to lock your vehicles, residences, and garage doors to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft. This incident also highlights the value of partnering with NPD to assist with video surveillance.
