Deputy Arrests Suspect for Petty Theft with Prior Convictions and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

DATE/TIME: January 27, 2025 / 8:25 a.m.

INCIDENT: Petty Theft with Two or More Prior Convictions and Possesion of Unlawful Parapherneila.

LOCATION: 17300 block of Main Street, Hesperia

SUSPECT(S): Jimmy Miller, 45-year-old Transient of Hesperia


SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:

On January 27, 2025, at approximately 8:25 a.m., Deputy Je. Sanchez, with the Hesperia Police Department, responded to the 17300 block of Main Street in the city of Hesperia reference a theft in progress.  Sanchez arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect, identified as Jimmy Miller, a 45-year-old, transient of Hesperia. Sanchez detained Miller and located drug paraphernalia in Miller’s possession. During a records check, it was discovered Miller had numerous theft-related convictions. 

Miller was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for PC666.1(a)(1)- Petty Theft with Two or More Prior Convictions and HS11364(a)- Possesion of Unlawful Parapherneila.
