Berkeley Police make second arrest in Adeline Street shooting investigation
The Berkeley Police Department has arrested a second suspect in connection with a December shooting incident that occurred near the 3200 block of Adeline Street. Yesterday's arrest marks the department's third apprehension of shooting suspects in the past three weeks, demonstrating continued progress in addressing gun violence in Berkeley.
Working in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators yesterday arrested a 25-year-old Lathrop resident and recovered an additional firearm during the operation. Detective Lieutenant Rittenhouse said, "Yesterday's successful operation is a result of skillful coordination with our law enforcement partners and demonstrates our Detectives' resolve to bring these cases to closure."
This arrest follows the January 16th apprehension of a 49-year-old out of Emeryville, the first suspect identified in this case. During the service of a search warrant in Emeryville, investigators recovered multiple firearms, narcotics packaged for sale, and a significant amount of cash. The District Attorney's Office has filed criminal charges against this suspect in connection with the December shooting.
The investigation began on December 19, 2024, when multiple community members reported gunfire near the 3200 block of Adeline Street at approximately 9:50 AM. Officers responding to the scene located numerous shell casings and documented property damage. Through extensive investigation, including a review of surveillance footage and physical evidence, detectives identified both suspects as the individuals allegedly responsible for this shooting incident.
The Berkeley Police Department extends its gratitude to the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in this operation and to community members who provided valuable information during this investigation.
