Community meeting for Garage B tonight, 1/29
Tonight at 7 p.m. residents are invited to attend a community meeting in City Hall Council Chambers, 94 Washington St., to learn more about the proposed redevelopment plan to redevelop and modernize Garage B. Interested attendees should enter City Hall through the Newark Street entrance.
The Department of Community Development will present proposed uses for the 50-year-old municipal parking garage which could transform the property into a transit-oriented, mixed-use site with active ground-floor retail, residential housing, school space, and parking.
The residential portion of the site would include a minimum of 20% affordable housing for low- and moderate-income households. The remaining balance of the residential units would be workforce housing.
The plan also proposes a new modern public parking garage that will maintain or exceed the current number of spaces in the garage, Vision Zero pedestrian safety improvements, stormwater mitigation strategies to reduce localized flooding, sustainable design and energy efficient designs, and modern standards to reduce the City’s significant long-term costs of maintaining the parking garage.
