INCIDENT: PC 29800(a)(1) - Felon/Addict Possession of Firearm / PC 273.6(a) - Violation of Domestic Violence Restraining Order
LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Highway (SR-62) / Split Rock Avenue, Twentynine Palms
SUSPECT(S): Jacob Sterling, 36-year-old male, Transient
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Twentynine Palms deputies contacted Jacob Sterling during a traffic stop near the intersection of SR-62 and Split Rock Avenue. Deputies discovered Sterling was the restrained person in a Domestic Violence Restraining Order, and the protected person was present in the same vehicle. The restraining order also prohibited Sterling from possessing firearms and ammunition. Sterling was found to be in possession of multiple firearms and ammunition in the vehicle, including a loaded unserialized 9-millimeter home-built pistol, commonly referred to as a "ghost gun."
Additionally, deputies located drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Sterling was arrested and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, where he was subsequently transferred to West Valley Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
