Sewer Break Update  

I want to provide an update on the sewer main break that occurred along Hayes Road between 25 and 26 Mile Road.

A 20-inch ductile iron pipe with concrete coverage developed a crack due to its age (over 45 years old) and extreme cold temperatures. Crews have been working through the night to maintain low sewer levels, allowing access to the damaged area for repairs. A bypass system was installed to facilitate the replacement of the damaged section of the pipe.

Overnight, a new pipe was delivered from a facility in Grand Rapids and is scheduled to be installed today, with full repairs expected to be completed by tomorrow at the latest.

Hayes Road remains closed between 25 Mile and 26 Mile until repairs are completed. Residents and businesses are urged to continue conserving water to help minimize sewer flow until the repairs are finalized.

I had Crews work diligently overnight to prevent any sewage overflow into the Clinton River. Water samples have been collected and are currently being analyzed to determine if any sewage discharge has occurred into the River. Results are expected this morning. Any seepage was immediately controlled and stopped from overflowing. 

All county, state, and local agencies, including the Health Department and EGLE, have been notified and are actively monitoring the situation.

We appreciate the cooperation and patience of our residents and businesses during this time. Your efforts in conserving water have played a crucial role in assisting the repair process.

PLEASE NOTE: Septic Homes are Not Effected! Water is safe to Drink and is not affected.
