Update on Deputy Involved Shooting. SHERIFF LEVON ALLEN

Earlier tonight, deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle that crossed into Clayton County from Fayette County. Fayette deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed.
Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded as the vehicle turned onto Point South Parkway.
The pursuit involved a black Jeep Limited with Michigan license plates that did not match the vehicle. The Jeep had been reported stolen out of the City of Atlanta Police Department.
The vehicle was driven by an unidentified male suspect, who led deputies through the south end of Tara Boulevard before continuing onto Highway 54. During the pursuit, the suspect fired shots at deputies, striking both a police vehicle and a bystander’s car at the intersection of Tara Road and Tara Boulevard. Additionally, multiple vehicles sustained damage throughout the chase.
The pursuit ended at the intersection of Tara Boulevard and Winding Way Lane when the suspect rear-ended both a Cadillac Escalade and a Honda Accord.
After the crash, the suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, crossing multiple lanes of traffic.
During the apprehension, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
This incident remains under active investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
