The Moorpark Police Department proudly presents a newly developed Business Security Assessment Program to provide Moorpark business owners with tips for making their businesses safer and more secure. Moorpark Volunteers in Policing Mark Chagaris and Michael Madrigal, along with Moorpark’s Community Resource Officer, Senior Deputy Becky Purnell, have completed extensive Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) training and have developed a Business Security Assessment Program to provide Moorpark business owners with tips for making their businesses more secure. CPTED refers to the proper design, maintenance, and use of a structure (home, business, etc) to reduce crime and to enhance the quality of life. With the Business Security Assessment Program, business owners within the City of Moorpark can make an appointment for the Business Security Assessment team to come to their business and conduct a security assessment. The team will conduct a comprehensive assessment to include the interior and exterior of the business, and they can address specific concerns the business owners may have. The business owners will need to be present during the assessment, which will take approximately 30 minutes. According to the International Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Association, “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design is a multi-disciplinary approach of crime prevention that uses urban and architectural design and the management of built and natural environments. CPTED strategies aim to reduce victimization, deter offender decisions that precede criminal acts, and build a sense of community among inhabitants so they can gain territorial control of areas, reduce crime, and minimize fear of crime.” The Business Security Assessment team is available to conduct a limited number of assessments per week, so please don’t wait to schedule yours. Business owners requesting an assessment of their business will be placed on a waiting list based on when the request was received. Moorpark Chief of Police Darin Hendren said, “This is a great opportunity to have our Moorpark Volunteers in Policing and Crime Prevention Officer provide business owners with ideas to help make their businesses more secure and patrons safer. The assessment is free and takes less than one hour, schedule yours today!” If you would like to schedule a Business Security Assessment appointment, please contact Senior Deputy Becky Purnell at [email protected] or 805-299-1504. Appointments will be scheduled in the order the requests are received. As a reminder, the Moorpark Police Department also implemented a Home Security Assessment Program, similar to the Business Security Assessment Program. If you live within the Moorpark city limits or immediate surrounding county areas and would like the team to conduct a security assessment of your home, please contact Senior Deputy Purnell to make an appointment. If you are interested in becoming a Moorpark Volunteer in Policing, please contact Jane Mineo at [email protected] or 805-532-2707. The Moorpark Police Department’s motto is “One crime or one victim is one too many.” We believe that by working together with our community, we can help keep Moorpark a safe place to live, work, and visit. |
