The Village of New Lenox and the New Lenox Safe Community Coalition, is offering a FREE presentation titled “Teen Dating Violence: What Trusted Adults Should Know.” This program is being held to raise awareness about teen dating violence and in support of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
This presentation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm via Zoom Videoconference. Alicia Guerrero, Mother of 15-Year-Old Briana Valle, Murdered by Ex-Boyfriend
Alicia will share a powerful story about her 15-year-old daughter Briana Valle, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend outside their Romeoville, IL home. Alicia, who was also shot during the incident, will share details regarding the murder of her daughter and what led up to this horrific event.
Teen Dating and Domestic Violence Professionals
Jenny Guiney, Groundwork Community Outreach Supervisor, Guardian Angel Community Services
Jenny will define teen dating violence, discuss the different types of domestic violence relationships, define abusive behavior, explain why some victims remain in abusive relationships, share myths surrounding domestic violence and provide information regarding available resources.
Jenny Guiney has worked in healthcare and social services for over 25 years. She has been with Guardian Angel Community Services since 2021 and is a Certified Domestic Violence Professional. Jenny is currently the Program Manager for Groundwork where she leads the Groundwork team to provide comprehensive programming for survivors and their families that includes a 24- Hour Emergency Hotline and Emergency Shelter, Crisis Intervention & Safety Planning, Individual and Group Counseling, Legal and Medical Advocacy and Prevention Education and Community Outreach.
Marie Goulet, LCSW and Lead Social Worker for New Lenox School District #122
Marie will discuss the effects that social media have on teens, provide a school perspective on teen dating violence and share information regarding available resources.
Marie has been a social worker in both the community mental health setting and in the school setting for over 20 years. Throughout her professional tenure, Marie has served in many roles including serving as the Assistant Director of Special Education at NLSD #122 and Principal of Mackay Education Center. Marie’s true passion is providing direct service to students and families and loves being a school social worker. Marie has an extensive background working with mental health, specifically targeting trauma, anxiety, and intensive student behaviors.
