NWS Winter Weather Advisory issued for Hoboken tomorrow night; Discounted parking available; Emergency snow route reminder
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Hudson County, including Hoboken, from 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, through 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9. The City of Hoboken and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are monitoring the forecast, which currently calls for heavy mixed precipitation with a snow and sleet accumulation between 3 and 5 inches possible.
Public Works will be salting and plowing roads before, during, and after the storm, as necessary. However, the Office of Emergency Management urges residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel, if possible, due to potentially icy road conditions.
Snow Emergency Routes reminder
Residents are reminded that vehicles parked on snow emergency routes, when the streets are snow covered, may be subject to ticketing and towing. This is necessary to allow emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents. As always, cars parked illegally in, or too close to, crosswalks are subject to towing.
Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read “No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.” A map and list of emergency snow routes is available on the City website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow. The map is also attached to this Nixle.
The Office of Emergency Management will announce if and when snow emergency routes go into effect via Nixle and on X at: @HobokenOEM.
Discounted garage parking offered
Due to the anticipated storm and to assist in keeping emergency snow routes clear, a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period is being offered at Garages B (28 2nd St.), Garages D (215 Hudson St.), and the Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits.
Discounted parking begins Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. and ends Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m.
Please note, garages fill quickly as space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular rates apply at all other times.
Keep sidewalks and curb ramps clear
The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, & Public Works will salt roads, and City and County plowing crews will conduct plowing and shoveling operations as needed.
Property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.
Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling and to assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.
The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.
To report an un-shoveled sidewalk, please email sanitationinspectors@hobokennj.gov
