A Snow Emergency is hereby declared in the Town of Yorktown effective as of 7:00 P.M. on February 8, 2025.
This Snow Emergency has been declared due to a severe snow storm that may cause extremely hazardous conditions on the roadways and throughout the entire town.
This situation threatens the public safety.
This Snow Emergency will remain in effect until 2:00 P.M. on February 9, 2025 or if it is rescinded by a subsequent order.
As the Town Supervisor of the Town of Yorktown, I, Edward A. Lachterman exercise the authority given me under Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law to preserve the public safety and hereby render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of the Town of Yorktown.
I hereby direct all departments and agencies of the Town of Yorktown to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public infrastructure, and provide such emergency assistance deemed necessary.
According to the Town of Yorktown Town Code, a "Snow Emergency" is defined under section 275-14, which essentially means that any vehicle parked on a public highway during a snowstorm can be removed by the Police Chief or Superintendent of Highways, and the owner may be subject to towing and ticketing if their car obstructs snow removal efforts; this is done to facilitate snow clearing operations and emergency response access during heavy snowfall.
