Public Notice from the Hawthorne Police Department Traffic Bureau

Attention Hawthorne Residents,

As snowfall continues and more snow is expected into the following week, the Hawthorne Police Department Traffic Bureau, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works (DPW), kindly seeks your cooperation to ensure safe and efficient snow removal throughout our community.

Parking & Roadway Safety

To support effective snow plowing and maintain emergency access, we ask for your assistance with the following:

  • Move vehicles off public streets whenever possible to allow DPW crews to plow efficiently.
  • Do not shovel or blow snow into the roadways, as this creates safety hazards and disrupts plowing operations.

Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced under Borough Ordinance 505-43:

  • Parking is prohibited on designated streets when snowfall exceeds two inches.
  • Vehicles in violation may be subject to fines or towing.
  • Vehicles cannot remain parked on borough streets for more than 24 hours.
  • Snow-covered vehicles left for over 48 hours will be removed from the roadway.

For a complete list of borough parking ordinances, please visit the borough website https://ecode360.com/14639274

Sidewalk Snow Removal

  • Residents are required to clear snow and ice from sidewalks within eight hours of daylight after the snowfall ends, as per Borough Ordinance 444-14.
  • Failure to clear sidewalks may result in fines.

Stay Informed & Plan Ahead

We encourage residents to:

  • Monitor weather forecasts and prepare for snow events in advance.
  • Move vehicles off the roadway before snowfall reaches two inches.
  • Clear sidewalks within the required timeframe.
  • Share this information with neighbors to ensure our community remains safe and accessible for everyone.

Additional Parking Options

Temporary parking will be available at Washington, Roosevelt, and Lincoln Middle Schools during snow events. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Do not block school entrances when parking on school property.
  • All vehicles parked on school property must be moved by Sunday, February 9, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
