USACE and AshBritt Inc. Begin Waterway Debris Removal in McDowell County
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and AshBritt Inc. have officially begun waterway debris removal operations in McDowell County as part of ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. This initiative aims to clear storm-related debris from local rivers and streams, reducing flood risks and restoring natural water flow. Residents may see crews working in affected areas over the coming weeks. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as these critical recovery efforts continue.

Hope After Helene: Community Information Events to Support Recovery Efforts

McDowell County Emergency Services invites citizens to attend the 'Hope After Helene' Community Information Events, offering guidance and assistance with disaster recovery applications and resources. Representatives from various county agencies will be available to answer questions and provide tailored support. Events are scheduled at three locations: North Cove Elementary on February 11 (5:00 PM - 7:00 PM), McDowell Emergency Services Headquarters on February 15 (8:30 AM - 12:00 PM), and AC “Bud” Hogan Community Center in Old Fort on February 18 (5:00 PM - 7:00 PM). Debris Removal Efforts Continue in McDowell County

As of February 10 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has reported the collection of 54,509.00 cubic yards of debris and 36,275.00 tons of soil as part of ongoing debris removal efforts in McDowell County. As this situation is constantly evolving, please check our storm debris management updates at https://www.mcdowellgov.com/debris Additional passes for ROW debris pickup will continue, and residents are encouraged to place debris within 10 feet of the public right of way. Those needing debris removed from private property or private drives can apply for assistance at www.mcdowellgov.com/helene.

The Helene Hotline is available 24/7 for McDowell County Residents Needing Recovery Assistance

The Helene Hotline (828-652-3241) is available 24/7 to help the public navigate storm recovery resources. Staff can assist with applications for hazard mitigation grants, debris removal, and damage reporting. In-person support for these programs is also available at McDowell County Emergency Services Headquarters at 129 Barnes Rd. Marion, NC. Call the hotline for guidance and support as we work together to recover.
