Narrative:

The East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit conducted a months-long investigation into a crime spree involving multiple thefts from vehicles and associated crimes that occurred in December of 2024.

On December 2, 2024, detectives learned of a crime spree that occurred in the city of Thousand Oaks and community of Oak Park.  The crime spree involved suspects committing numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles and tampering with additional vehicles.  The suspects stole cash, credit cards, personal identifying information, and various items of personal property from the vehicles.  The suspects then used the stolen credit cards at locations in the County of Ventura.

The East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit immediately launched an investigation into this crime spree.  Detectives determined the vehicle used in the crime spree had been stolen from another victim in Oxnard, CA.  Over the course of the investigation, detectives were able to locate the stolen vehicle and much of the property that had been stolen during the crime spree.  Detectives coordinated the return of the vehicle and property to their rightful owners.

Detectives continued the investigation and identified a suspect in the crime spree as a male juvenile.  On February 4, 2025, detectives located the male juvenile suspect in Oxnard, CA.  The suspect was arrested and later released with a signed promise to appear for charges including PC 484(a) – Petty Theft, PC 487(a) – Grand Theft, PC 182(a)(1) – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, PC 530.5(a) – Identity Theft and VC 10852 – Vehicle Tampering.

The East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit would like to remind the public to keep their vehicles locked and secure, and to remove any valuables from the vehicle when not in use.  Remove it, Lock it, Keep it.

The city of Thousand Oaks is an extremely safe community.  However, this sense of safety is occasionally exploited by the criminal element.  The East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit would like to remind citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious people and vehicles by promptly calling 911 or our non-emergency line of (805) 654-9511. If you see something, say something.

The East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit continues to combat property crimes through keeping the community informed of current crime trends while aggressively pursuing and arresting those that chose to do us harm.
