Mayor Reichelt Submits Resolution To Town Council Requesting Investigation Into Eversource Rate Increases

West Springfield, MA:  Mayor Wiliam Reichelt announced the submission of a resolution to the West Springfield Town Council urging both the Massachusetts State Legislature and the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities to investigate the recent and significant increases in gas and electricity rates charged by Eversource. This action is in response to mounting concerns from local residents about the financial strain these rising utility costs have placed on households throughout the community.  The Mayor is asking for the Town Council’s joint support in seeking legislative or regulatory actions that could help mitigate the financial burden on West Springfield residents.

“We are hearing from residents who are deeply worried about the rising costs of gas and electricity. These increases are hitting families hard, especially those already struggling in this challenging economic environment,” said Mayor Reichelt. “As a community, it is crucial that we stand up for our residents and take action to ensure they are not unfairly burdened by escalating utility prices.”

The resolution calls for a comprehensive investigation by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and the Massachusetts State Legislature into Eversource's rate increases. The Mayor is also urging consideration of possible relief measures or rate adjustments to help those most affected by the hikes.

The Mayor’s submission of the resolution underscores the Town of West Springfield’s commitment to protecting the financial health and well-being of its residents. By investigating these increases, the Town seeks to ensure fairness and accountability in utility pricing.  The resolution will be reviewed and discussed by the Town Council in upcoming meetings, where it will be voted on for adoption.
