INCIDENT: PC 211 - Robbery
HS 11550(a) – Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance

LOCATION: Target, 19201 Bear Valley Road, Apple Valley

SUSPECT(S): Juan Carlos Mariche, 32-year-old male of Phelan
Kyle Caitlin Stein, 34-year-old female of Phelan

SUMMARY: On Thursday, February 6, 2025, at approximately 6:34 p.m., deputies with Apple Valley Police Department were dispatched to a theft in progress. Employees from Target reported a subject concealing Pokémon cards and leaving the business without paying for them.

Deputy K. Mammolito responded and located the suspect, Juan Carlos Mariche, in the parking lot of Target near a vehicle. The investigation revealed Mariche had concealed the merchandise on his person and left the store without attempting to pay. When contacted by loss prevention officers, Mariche pushed one of them as he exited the store.

Deputy Mammolito contacted a subject inside of the vehicle Mariche was near when he was detained, and found Kyle Caitlin Stein inside. Stein was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Also in the vehicle were two dogs who were released to a family member.

Juan Carlos Mariche was arrested for robbery and Kyle Caitlin Stein was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Both were found to have arrest warrants for prior crimes and were booked into High Desert Detention Center.

On Monday, February 10, 2025, San Bernardino District Attorney filed a felony charge of robbery against Marich and a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence against Stein. Mariche remains in custody at High Desert Detention Center, where he is currently being held in lieu of $150,000 bail for the newly filed robbery charge, however he is also being held without bail for a parole violation. Stein was later released with a citation to appear in court at a later date.
