The Town of Bedford was recently made aware of an attempted phishing scam involving applications to various Town Commissions/Boards. Fortunately, the target of this attempted scam realized it may be a scam being suspicious that the senders email was a spoof pretending to be an official Town of Bedford email address.  Please be advised that ALL official emails from the Town of Bedford will end in the domain @bedfordny.gov and the Town of Bedford will never solicit direct payments via email.  Residents throughout NYS and beyond cannot be too careful as scammers continue to pretend to be government or official agencies such as your local municipality, State agencies such as EZ Pass, or Federal agencies such as the IRS.  Be suspicious of any email asking for direct immediate payment via a provided link or requests payment via bank transfer or prepaid credit/debit cards.  If you receive an email and are unsure whether it is from a legitimate source, please contact the respective commission, board, or agency via phone, in person, or a known email to verify.
