The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

December 29th 
Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Ave. / Potrero Ave.
At 12:31 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, officers found the driver had an outstanding warrant out of Marin County. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle - 6200 Block of Cypress Ave.
At 11:37 PM, an officer received a FLOCK Safety notification for a reported stolen vehicle out of Pinole. Officers circulated the area and located the vehicle unoccupied. The owner of the vehicle was contacted, and the vehicle was released on scene.

December 30th
Stolen Vehicle – 800 Block of Shevlin Dr.
At 6:42 AM, officers responded to the report of a stolen vehicle.

Theft – 1100 Block of Richmond St.
At 8:45 AM, officers responded to a theft from an unlocked vehicle.

Shoplift - 11382 San Pablo Ave. (Atlas Liquor):
At 8:02 PM, an officer reports two suspects stole items from the store. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.

Public Intoxication – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway):
At 8:59 AM, officers responded to a severely intoxicated person lying on the ground. The subject was transported to the hospital by medics. This case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office.

December 31st
Theft – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 12:47 PM, officers responded to a theft. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

At 4:24 PM, officers responded to a report of a theft. Officers located and positively identified the suspect. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

January 1st

January 2nd
Commercial Burglary - 9989 San Pablo Ave. (O’Reilly’s Auto Parts):
At 12:43 AM, officers responded to an audible alarm with a shattered window to the business. With the assistance of a Richmond Police Canine Unit, officers searched the building and did not locate any suspects inside. An employee responded to the scene and conducted a quick inventory and advised property was missing.

Driving Under the Influence - San Pablo Ave. / Burlingame Ave.
At 1:55 AM, officers responded to the area for an injury traffic collision. During the investigation, officers learned the driver of the vehicle collided with a pedestrian who was walking on the roadway. While speaking to the driver, officers noticed the driver appeared to be intoxicated and conducted a DUI investigation. During the investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by medics for injuries.

January 3rd
Attempted Grand Theft – 800 block of Bates Ave.
At 1:13 PM, an officer reports a suspect posed as the owner of a vacant lot in attempt to list the property for sale with a local realtor. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Battery – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 4:24 PM, an officer reports a suspect pulled the hair of one of the store employees after the employee accused the suspect of shoplifting.

January 4th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Wall Ave. / San Pablo Ave.
At 7:25 AM, an officer recovered a vehicle that was reported stolen to Oakland PD on 12/21/2024. The owner of the vehicle was contacted, and the vehicle was released on scene.

Public Intoxication / Open Container / Probation Violation – Blake Ave. / Kearney St.
At 9:31 AM, an officer responded to a report of a person passed out on the sidewalk with an almost empty pint of an alcoholic beverage next to them. The suspect was unable to care for themselves and found to be on probation. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention.

Possession of a Controlled Substance / Probation Violation – Cutting Blvd. / Peerless Ave.
At 10:21 AM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop. During an investigation, officers found the subject was on probation with an outstanding arrest warrant. During a search incident to arrest, officers located a controlled substance on the subject.  The suspect was cited in the field and released.

Organized Retail Theft - 11545 San Pablo Ave. (Ross Stores):
At 7:37 PM, an officer reports three suspects had fled the store with merchandise, prior to police arrival.
