Be Prepared to Evacuate - Check Your Evacuation Status on the Genasys Protect App - No parking in the Canyon
KNOW YOUR ZONE – STAY INFORMED
The National Weather Service is forecasting rains for the remainder of this week. The areas impacted by the Eaton Fire are vulnerable, and residents should expect, mud and debris flows. Some mud and debris may be seen immediately, while mud and debris located further up in the foothills may take longer to arrive in our local burn areas – possibly appearing after the rains stop. Please be vigilant.
Some areas in the City may be asked to evacuate. If you have not already done so, download the Genasys Protect app on your smart phone or android phone. You must type your address into the Genasys Protect app to check your evacuation status. Evacuations will be issued by zones and communicated through the Genasys Protect app. Updates will also be communicated on Nixle Alerts. To sign up for Nixle Alerts, text 888777
Plan for a potential evacuation in advance. If your zone is given an order to evacuate, evacuate promptly. Be sure to have important documents, medication, and a “go bag” ready in the event that you need to leave immediately. Please check on your neighbors and ensure that they also have a plan in place, in case they need to evacuate.
URGENT NOTICE: Fire Department, Police Department, and Public Works personnel will not enter areas that are experiencing active mud and debris flows. If your home is under Evacuation Orders and you choose to remain in your home, you will need to shelter in place until areas are deemed safe for City personnel to enter.
NO PARKING: In advance of Thursday’s storm, the City is issuing parking restrictions in the canyon area. No parking in the canyon residential areas beginning 9:00 am Thursday, February 13, 2025 until 9:00 am Sunday, February 16, 2025.
ATHENS SERVICES: In an effort to keep the streets clear, Athens will not collect trash in the canyon residential areas on Thursday. Please do not place bins out for collection, as they may be carried away by the mud and debris flows, causing additional obstructions.
SANDBAGS: Available on a first-come, first-served basis to Sierra Madre residents only. Must show proof of residency. Limit 25 bags per household. Empty bags are available at the City Maintenance Yards, located at 621 E. Sierra Madre Boulevard – behind the tennis courts. Please be prepared to fill your own bags.
