...SYSTEM MOVING INTO THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE... An active pattern returns to the southeast Alaska panhandle as a approaching system will push into the Northern Gulf of Alaska through Friday. We are expecting impactful snow accumulations, with snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour, for the City and Borough of Yakutat starting Thursday night through Friday afternoon. Main forecast challenge remains on where heaviest axis of snow will setup along the coast. If the main band of heavier precip shifts west, forecasted snowfall totals will be severely impacted and much lower.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...City and Borough of Yakutat.

* WHEN...From 9 PM Thursday to 9 PM AKST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snowfall should arrive late Thursday night, diminishing through late Friday afternoon. Heaviest snowfall rates approaching 1 inch per hour expected early Friday morning.
