DATE/TIME: February 7, 2025, 2:39 PM

INCIDENT: Big Bear City Man Arrested on Felony No-Bail Warrant During a Traffic Stop

LOCATION: Fairway Blvd./ Division Dr., Big Bear City, CA.

SUSPECT(S): Christopher Woods, 52-year-old Big Bear City transient

VICTIM(S): State of California

SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is arrest made in which Proposition 36 was applied:

On February 7, 2025, at approximately 2:39 PM, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. Deputies contacted the occupants of the vehicle to obtain their identifications. Deputies learned the passenger, Christopher Woods, had a felony no-bail warrant for his arrest. Deputies searched Woods and the contents of his suitcase. Deputies located drug paraphernalia, several clear plastic baggies with suspected methamphetamine, and a scale.

Deputies arrested Christopher Woods for possession of a controlled substance for sales, with prior convictions. Woods was booked into custody at West Valley Detention Center and is being held without bail due to his felony warrant. Woods is scheduled to appear at the San Bernardino Superior Court on February 18, 2025.
