Lake Effect Snow Warning until 06:00AM Wednesday

* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow and sleet accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations between one tenth and one half of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 20 inches over the two and a half day time period. Locally up to 2 feet of snow possible over northwest Oneida County. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph tonight into Monday will likely create hazardous whiteout conditions.

* WHERE...Northern Oneida and Southern Oneida Counties.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until 7 PM EST this evening. For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, from 7 PM this evening to 6 AM EST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. Areas of blowing and drifting snow could significantly reduce visibility, causing blizzard conditions and whiteouts in open exposed locations. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Significant icing today is likely to cause tree damage and power outages across the county. Heavy lake effect snow will combine with strong northwest winds late tonight into Monday to bring near blizzard conditions at times in the heaviest lake effect snow bands. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected in the heavy lake effect snow. This will be a long duration event through Tuesday night. The lake effect snow band will fluctuate north and south through the warning period.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NORTHERN ONEIDA ... SOUTHERN ONEIDA
