Advisory

BUNDLE UP, FERRIS! WINTER IS COMING (FOR REAL THIS TIME)

The arctic front is on its way, and it’s bringing some of the coldest temps we’ve seen this season. North Texas is about to turn into a popsicle, so now’s the time to prepare before you find yourself regretting life choices.

WHAT WE’RE DOING

  • Crews (TXDOT and City) will be out treating major roadways to help keep things as ice-free as possible. But let’s be real—no amount of brine can defeat Texas weather mood swings, so drive carefully.
  • No, we don’t brine neighborhood streets. If we did, your cul-de-sac might turn into an Olympic-level bobsled track, and we don’t need anyone attempting the Ferris 500.
  • Make sure your irrigation systems are OFF unless you’re aiming for the “Best Backyard Ice Rink” award (which is not a real thing).
WHAT TO EXPECT
  • Light freezing drizzle may show up overnight Tuesday. Ice accumulations should be minimal, but bridges and overpasses could get slick—so don’t go testing your “Tokyo Drift” skills.
  • Wind chills could drop as low as -10 degrees—so if you were planning to go outside in shorts like a true Texan… maybe rethink that.
  • Stay tuned for updates because, well, Texas weather likes to keep us on our toes.
TRASH PICKUP & CLOSURES

If the weather gets bad enough, there could be delays in trash pickup and city services. We’ll keep you posted on our website and social media, so don’t panic if your trash can sits a little longer than usual.

REMEMBER THE 4 P’S!
  • People – Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly or anyone who might need a helping hand.
  • Pets – If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them. Bring them inside—don’t make them wear tiny sweaters and tough it out.
  • Plants – Bring them in or cover them up unless you want them to become plant-sicles.
  •  Pipes – Cover outdoor pipes and spigots so they don’t turn into unwanted water fountains.
WATER SHUTOFF IN AN EMERGENCY

If your pipes burst (hopefully not, but let’s be real—it happens), knowing how to turn off your water can save you from an indoor swimming pool situation.

POWER OUTAGES

Texas and power outages—name a more iconic duo. If the power goes out, report it to Oncor by:

STAYING WARM (WITHOUT BURNING DOWN YOUR HOUSE)
  • Give heaters space—like that one family member at Thanksgiving.
  • Plug heaters directly into the wall, not power strips. Safety first, people!
  • Keep heaters on hard, level surfaces (no balancing acts).
  • Turn them off when you leave the room or go to sleep—fireplaces too.
  • DO NOT use your oven or stove for heat. We know it’s tempting, but just don’t.

Stay safe, stay warm, and if all else fails—wrap yourself in a blanket burrito and wait for the sunshine to return.
