DATE/TIME: February 14, 2025 / 9:00 a.m.

INCIDENT: Possesion of a Controlled Substance with 2 or more Prior Convictions

LOCATION: 12000 block of Fifth Street, Hesperia

SUSPECT(S): Mark Huddleston, 55-year-old transient of Hesperia

SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:

On February 14, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Deputy Gray contacted the suspect, later identified as Mark Huddleston, 55-year-old transient of Hesperia, during a call for service in the 12000 block of Fifth Street in the city of Hesperia. As Deputy Gray approached Huddleston, he fled on foot but was detained a short time later. Huddleston was found to have an active felony warrant and was in possession of narcotics. During a records check, Deputy Gray discovered Huddleston had multiple prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance.

Huddleston was arrested booked into the High Desert Detention Center for HS11395(b)(1) – Possesion of a Controlled Substance with 2 or more Prior Convictions.
