Meridian Police Officers Rescue Vulnerable Juvenile from Freezing Waters
Meridian, ID – Today, February 18, 2025, Meridian Police Officers from Patrol and the School Resource Officer (SRO) team rescued a vulnerable juvenile from freezing waters inside a culvert near Linder Road. The student had left the school this afternoon without permission, running across Linder Road before entering the embankment and ultimately the culvert, which contained a significant amount of water.
The incident began when a student from the Achievement House of the West Ada School District left campus, ran across Linder Road, and entered the embankment, where he entered a culvert in the creek that contained a significant amount of water. While one of our SROs was searching for the student, he heard him from a distance. Without hesitation, the officer entered the culvert and began making his way toward the juvenile.
Multiple officers quickly arrived on scene and joined the rescue efforts, entering the culvert to assist. After a short but intense effort, officers successfully removed the student from the dangerous conditions. Paramedics immediately assessed the student’s condition, ensuring he received the necessary medical attention. Meridian Fire and Ada County Paramedics were also on scene, providing additional support.
We are incredibly grateful for our officers’ quick response and decisive actions in saving this student from a potentially life-threatening situation. This incident serves as an important reminder of the dangers posed by culverts and waterways, especially in cold temperatures, and how quickly these situations can escalate.
The Meridian Police Department urges the community to remain vigilant around culverts and water-filled embankments. If you see someone in distress, call 911 immediately.
