Repair work & Boil Water Advisory continue; Low-to-no water pressure possible; Avoid southwest Hoboken
Veolia continues emergency repair work to a 36” water main near the intersection of Jersey Avenue and 18th Street in Jersey City. The main is part of the Jersey City interconnect, which primarily feeds Hoboken’s water system.
While Veolia has successfully switched Hoboken’s water feed to a secondary source, and isolated the break, residents may experience low-to-no water pressure during peak periods this morning due to demand.
Residents and businesses are reminded that a Boil Water Advisory remains in effect until further notice. The Boil Water Advisory is a necessary precaution, as water pressure fell below the recommended threshold during Veolia repairs. Please see below for reminders on how, and when, to safely boil your water for consumption.
Avoid southwest Hoboken
Eastbound Jersey Avenue lanes entering into Hoboken are closed due to the repair work. Traffic will be diverted onto 18th Street. One lane of traffic exiting the City westbound on Jersey Avenue remains open.
Hoboken and Jersey City Police officers are on site to assist with traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and oversize trucks.
Drivers are encouraged to enter and exit the City from northern routes.
The road closure and subsequent detours will remain in effect until the work is complete.
Boil water for consumption
Residents and businesses should boil their water for at least one minute for the following: washing dishes, drinking, cooking, or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, and all other consumption.
Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.
