FREEZING TEMPS OVERNIGHT ON THE ISLAND ARE EXPECTED TONIGHT 2/20/2025 (THURSDAY NIGHT) THROUGH MID MORNING 2/21/2025 (FRIDAY).
The National Weather Service is forecasting freezing temperatures on the Island for Thursday night (2/20/2025) through mid morning Friday(2/21/2025). Please take precautions NOW to protect any exposed water pipes from the freezing temperatures. When temps are foretasted to be below 32 degrees for more than four hours, to prevent a busted pipes from causing water damage, If your going to be home, SIWS recommends letting a couple cold water faucets run slightly. A stream about the size of a pencil tip. Open cabnet doors where plumbing exists on any exterior wall to allow warm air into the cabnet. If your hot water heating source is located outside or in a non-heated area then let a hot water faucet run overnight as well. SIWS does not recomend running your irrigation system overnight! Simpley shut off your irrigation system. Keeping water moving inside exposed pipes will help prevent the water lines from freezing. If you are away from your SI home then have a friend, relative or neighbor shut off your water at the customer shut of valve, located next to your water meter. Although this will not prevent your pipes from freezing, it will prevent water damage as a result of a broken pipe.Stay tuned to local weather.
