Advisory

Boil Water Advisory remains in effect; Samples being tested

Hoboken remains under a Boil Water Advisory following the Jersey City water main break, which is now repaired. Veolia collected water samples earlier today, which are being tested in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Testing takes at least 24 hours. Once results are available, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will review the results and determine if the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted. Hoboken will remain under a Boil Water Advisory until that time.

Veolia remains fully staffed in the event of future water main breaks due to potential pressure fluctuations. Veolia will continue to flush fire hydrants to stabilize pressure within the water system as an added precaution. If you see water coming out of hydrants, be assured, this is intentional.

Residents who experience discoloration and possible sediment should flush taps with cold water until it runs clear.

Residents and businesses should boil their water for at least one minute for the following: washing dishes, drinking, cooking, or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, and all other consumption.

Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.
