Redwood City Police Department DUI Checkpoint February 28, 2025

Redwood City, Ca. – On February 28, 2025, the Redwood City Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint between 6:00 P.M. and 2:00 A.M. at El Camino Real near Hopkins Ave., then Woodside Rd. near Hess Rd.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

Redwood City Chief of Police Kristina Bell said “The safety of our community remains our highest priority.  If you know you’ll be drinking, we strongly encourage you to plan ahead and arrange for a safe and responsible way to get home. Whether it’s designating a sober driver, using a rideshare service, or taking public transportation, making the right choice can prevent accidents and save lives. Every measure taken to reduce impaired driving plays a significant role in improving traffic safety and helps keep our roads safe for everyone.”

The Redwood City Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
