Newark Police Department Crime Blotter: Monday February 17 - Sunday February 23, 2025

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2025:
 
5:11 AM Officers investigated multiple vehicle burglaries reported throughout the city.
 
6:30 AM Officer Stevenson investigated an attempted vehicle theft near Musick Ave & Newark Blvd. The door handle was forced open.
 
8:30 AM Officer Stevenson investigated a vehicle theft and multiple mailbox burglaries near Cherry St & Stevenson Blvd.
 
2:30 PM Officer Jackman was dispatched to investigate the theft of items from a truck bed near Thornton Ave & Cherry St.
 
4:50 PM Officer Berlanga responded to the report of a person down near Stevenson Blvd and Parada St. A 43-year-old male was arrested for public intoxication and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
5:15 PM Officer Jackman responded to the theft of a spare wheel reported on Mayhews Landing Rd.
 
6:43 PM Officer Dale investigated a license plate theft near Spruce St & Bridgepointe Dr. The plates were later recovered by another agency.
 
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2025:
 
5:49 AM While on routine patrol, Officer Cervantes noticed a shattered glass door at a retail establishment near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave. There was no reported loss.
 
7:55 AM Officer Kim investigated an attempted vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Rd. A lock was observed cut off; however no loss was reported.
 
8:01 AM Officer Lara investigated a commercial burglary on Mirabeau Dr. A building entrance was forced into; no loss was reported.
 
9:35 AM Officer S. Torres conducted a security check and located a 44-year-old male with an outstanding warrant. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:09 AM Officer Kim was on routine patrol on Newpark Mall Rd and observed a 43-year-old male in possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
12:47 PM Officer Kim responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle near Lake & Cedar Boulevards. It was determined to be a stolen vehicle. It was recovered and returned to the owner.
 
3:24 PM Officer S. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary on Cedar Blvd & Pandorea Terr. The vehicle title and registration were reported taken.
 
4:28 PM Officer Norvell investigated a retail theft that occurred on Newpark Mall Road.
 
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2025:
 
10:13 AM Officer Lor investigated a package theft reported near Central Ave & Willow St.

12:12 PM Officer Berlanga contacted a 43-year-old male near Newark Blvd & Civic Terrace Ave in possession of narcotics and outstanding warrants. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
3:54 PM Officer Diaz-Perez investigated a license plate theft reported near Hazelnut Dr & Bettencourt St.
 
9:47 PM Officer Lara was dispatched to a window smash vehicle burglary near Sycamore & Filbert St. No loss was reported.
 
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2025:
 
8:49 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a vehicle theft near Bettencourt St & Hazelnut Dr.
 
10:35 AM Officer Lor responded to a vehicle theft reported near Cedar Blvd & St Mark Ave.
 
1:30 PM Officer Lor responded to a license plate theft near Cherry St & Mayhews landing Rd.
 
3:09 PM Officer Berlanga investigated a vehicle theft from the area of Central Ave & Sycamore St.
 
9:10 PM Officer C. Torres responded to an assault reported near Thornton Ave & Ash St. A 31-year-old male was arrested for aggravated assault, narcotics, theft of utility services, and violating the terms of probation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2025:
 
9:38 AM Officer C. Torres responded to a residential burglary near Cherry St & Buena Vista Dr. The garage was entered and a bicycle was taken.
 
10:36 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a vehicle burglary near Fircrest St & Jarvis Ave. A door lock was drilled out and loss included various personal items.
 
10:11 PM Officer Orozco was on routine patrol and initiated a traffic stop on Cherry St & Mowry Ave for a vehicle without headlights. A 44-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:01 PM Officer Medina responded to a license plate theft near Peachtree Ave & Spruce St.
 
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2025:
 
10:30 AM Officer Dale responded to several package thefts reported near Seawind Way & Willow St; He also investigated a license plate theft from Central Ave & Willow St.
 
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2025:
 
2:30 AM Officer Orozco conducted a traffic stop near Cherry St & Jasmine Ave. A 45-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
1:29 PM Officer Taylor was dispatched to an assault that occurred on Newpark Mall Rd.
 
7:12 PM Officer Orozco responded to a disturbance near Cedar Blvd & Joaquin Murieta Ave. A 44-year-old male was arrested for verbal threats and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
