CITY OF TONKAWA WATER EMERGENCY UPDATE – EVENING STATUS REPORT  

02/24/2025 

Our community continues to make steady progress in managing the ongoing water emergency. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work toward restoring normal service. 

WATER TRAILERS & BOTTLED WATER DISTRIBUTION: 

• The potable water trailers are being refilled as needed in Blackwell. We stagger refills so that at least one trailer remains available at all times. If a trailer is temporarily unavailable, please be patient as we work to keep them stocked. 

• Bottled water continues to be distributed, and more shipments are scheduled to arrive tomorrow to ensure continued availability. 

BOIL ORDER REMINDER: 

• The Boil Order remains in effect. Please bring any water obtained from the city system to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, or hygiene.  

• The Boil Order will remain in place even after water is restored until water samples confirm safety. 

WATER SYSTEM PROGRESS & LEAK MITIGATION: 

• We are pleased to report that, according to our ongoing calculations, several hours of water production continue to replenish our basins.   

• This is keeping us on schedule for restoration sometime on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. However, this remains a best-case scenario and is subject to change.  This operation is very fluid. 

• Tonkawa Water Department crews have investigated and mitigated multiple leaks across town. 

• Crews, wearing full protective equipment, conducted inspections in the Salt Fork River to ensure the integrity of our waterlines, there. 

• If you observe any leaks, please report them immediately to:

BOTTLED WATER DELIVERY FOR THOSE IN NEED: 

• The Tonkawa Fire Department and Public Works crews have been delivering bottled water to residents, throughout the day, who cannot access a distribution site. 

• If you require bottled water delivery, contact:
  Tonkawa Police Department:  (580) 628-2516; or  Tonkawa City Offices: (580) 628-2508. 

• A new automated request system is now available. Call and choose to either wait for a live operator or leave a message with your name, address, and contact number for follow-up. 

SANITATION & PROPER DISPOSAL OF USED BOTTLES: 

• Davis Sanitation is continuing normal trash pickup services. 

• Please dispose of used water bottles properly to help keep our city clean.
