UPDATE: Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation 92ND Avenue
We are providing an update on Monday’s officer-involved shooting (OIS), which occurred just after 4:00 p.m. on February 24, 2025, in the 900 block of 92nd Avenue.
As the investigation continues, we have learned that responding officers located the suspect in the 1000 block of 92nd Avenue. The suspect shot at officers while they were inside their fully marked patrol vehicle. In response, two officers discharged their service weapons.
The suspect ran to the 9000 block of D Street, where additional shots were fired before officers safely took him into custody. The suspect was treated at a local hospital for injuries as a result of the incident. However, he was not struck by gunfire.
No OPD officers were physically injured, and officers recovered the suspect’s firearm at the scene.
In accordance with OPD policy, the officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave.
Consistent with OPD policy, the OIS is being criminally and administratively investigated by the Oakland Police Department. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the Community Police Review Agency (CPRA) are conducting independent investigations.

Background:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred just after 4:00 p.m. on February 24, 2025, in the 900 block of 92nd Avenue. OPD officers initially responded to calls from residents stating a man was pointing a firearm at community members in the area.
Once on the scene, responding officers located the armed individual. Officers attempted to detain the suspect, who pointed the firearm at officers. Shots were fired, and the suspect ran. Officers located the suspect at a second location where additional shots were fired. Officers were able to safely take the suspect into custody, who was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
In accordance with OPD policy, the officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave.
