SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Two vehicle, head-on crash with injuries
DATE AND TIME: Approximately 7:48 P.M. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025
LOCATION: Derby Road near Holland Lake Road, Sidney Township

Montcalm County Deputies responded to the area of Derby Road and Holland Lake Road in Sidney Township for the report of a two vehicle crash with injuries. The crash was reported on February 25, 2025 at approximately 7:48 P.M.
The investigation has revealed that a 2018 Kia Sportage was traveling north on Derby Road while a 2016 Chevy Silverado was traveling south, approaching one another. The information learned thus far is the Silverado crossed the centerline. The Sportage took evasive action by swerving to the left to attempt to avoid the collision. The two vehicles then struck one another head-on in the southbound lane of travel.
The driver of the Sportage, a 23-year-old man from Richmond Hill, New York, was transported by ambulance to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital for his injuries. The driver of the Silverado, a 45-year-old man from Sidney, fled the scene on foot prior to deputies’ arrival and efforts to locate him were unsuccessful. He did report to the Sheriff’s Office the morning of February 26, and is participating in the investigation. The crash remains under investigation.
Derby Road between Holland Lake Road and Sidney Road was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours during the investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, Montcalm County Emergency Services, Greenville Department of Public Safety, and Stanton Police Department.
