On February 24, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Fremont Police Department Patrol Officers responded to the 40500 block of Albrae Street to the report of a solo vehicle collision. Fremont PD and Fremont Fire Department personnel arrived simultaneously to render medical aid to the injured driver. The driver was transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment. The passenger in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries from the collision. Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to injuries sustained from this collision several hours later.
The Fremont Police Department Traffic Unit assumed this collision investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was traveling southbound on Albrae Street approaching a turn in the roadway when it struck the curbline. The vehicle then traversed across a grassy landscaping area, ultimately colliding with a tree. The driver sustained major injuries, including significant head trauma from the impact. Preliminary findings indicate the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, and the passenger did have the seatbelt securely fastened. No other vehicles were involved in this collision. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and drug or alcohol impairment is unknown at this time.
On February 25th the Alameda County Coroner's Office responded to the area hospital to recover the decedent. The deceased person was identified as a 79-year-old Fremont resident.
This is Fremont’s second fatal traffic collision in 2025.
