WATER EMERGENCY – UPDATE FROM MORNING BRIEFING (02/27/2025)
We are seeing continued progress in our water restoration efforts, and we are encouraged by the results overnight.
CURRENT SYSTEM STATUS PROGRESS
+ The system successfully held pressure overnight in the areas where water was pushed.
+ The Water Tower is continuing to fill and hold water successfully.
+ We have begun pushing water to the West Standpipe and the Central Standpipe.
+ Major leaks have been very limited, which is better than expected.
> Any problem areas identified have been addressed by Water Crews and will continue to be monitored.
We are still building pressure in the system. Some customers may see water at their faucets, but it is NOT safe for consumption or hygiene use at this time. This is part of the controlled restoration process.
CRITICAL REMINDERS
+ Please continue conserving water by ensuring all inside and outside faucets are turned off.
+ DO NOT turn on your faucets or meters until you receive an official notification.
+ Failure to follow these instructions will slow progress and could prolong our timeline.
+ We will be publishing a map of the restoration schedule for the areas in town. This schedule will allow customers to be home when their area is restored. These notifications will go out via Tonkawa Nixle Alert and the City of Tonkawa Facebook Page, and the Tonkawa Emergency Management Facebook Page.
WORK ON WELLS AND INFRASTRUCTURE WORK
+ Crews and contractors are actively working on our wells, which will help strengthen and stabilize our system.
+ We continue to work closely with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ).
+ Specialists from the Oklahoma Rural Water Association (ORWA) are on-site, consulting and assisting with every aspect of the restoration process.
