Oakland City man arrested for theft.
On February 27, 2025, AT 12:40 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a call reporting that someone had stolen approximately 80 feet of railroad line close to the corner of County Road 600 South and 1100 East near Somerville. Deputy Michael Owens went to the area and began an investigation into the incident. Upon arriving he spoke to the reporting party and while on scene he observed evidence relating to the crime that had occurred. Deputy Owens followed that evidence to a residence approximately a mile and a half away from the crime scene. While conducting a search on that property 38 year old Jeremy Norrington of Oakland City arrived on scene and was questioned about the missing rail road line. After a brief investigation the railroad line was found severely damaged. Ultimately the railroad line valued at $4,000 per 40 feet section was returned to its proper owner. Further during the investigation a stolen vehicle from Knox County was recovered. At the end of the investigation Mr. Norrington was taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Theft. He was also issued citations for False and Fictitious Registration and Driving While Suspended (Infraction.)
Deputy Owens was assisted by Deputy Eric Powell.
This is an active and open investigation.
