SB Sheriff’s Department Now Using Body Scanners at County Jails
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is pleased to announce the implementation of advanced body scanner technology in our county jails, marking a significant enhancement in our efforts to maintain safety and security for both our inmates and staff.
In August of 2024, the Sheriff’s Department began using body scanners at the West Valley Detention Center, the High Desert Detention Center and the Central Detention Center. When an individual is arrested and enters one of the jails, they undergo a non-invasive body scan. The scanner generates a detailed image that highlights any foreign objects or substances hidden on or within the person’s body. Trained personnel analyze the images, quickly identifying any potential contraband.
Body scanning technology is a proactive and highly effective approach to preventing drugs from entering the jail. It not only serves as a deterrent but also significantly increases the ability to intercept drugs, thus maintaining a drug-free environment within the facilities.
