H5N1 Avian Influenza Information

H5 bird flu is widespread in wild birds worldwide and is causing outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows with several recent human cases in U.S. dairy and poultry workers.

While the current public health risk is low, Center for Disease Control is watching the situation carefully and working with states to monitor people with animal exposures.

Locally, the Hunterdon County Health Department is tracking the latest information regarding the novel H5N1 Avian Influenza Virus. The county website contains information and guidance regarding this outbreak.

The NJ State Department of Health has released a press release regarding the first feline case of H5 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI or “bird flu”) reported in the state:
