WATER EMERGENCY UPDATE – END OF DAY BRIEFING

 (02/28/2025)

Our water system has held strong throughout the day, and we continue to make steady progress toward full restoration. Pressure is building, our lines are full, and both the Water Tower and Standpipes have maintained good levels.

LIMITED WATER USE NOW ALLOWED

After careful evaluation of system data, Tonkawa Emergency Management and the Tonkawa Water Department have determined that it is now safe for the community to begin limited use of water utilities. However, customers must continue to be mindful of their usage.

+   We understand that the water has been off all week, and the community is eager to return to normal use.

+   At this time, we are prioritizing system stabilization as we have more volume than pressure—which is necessary to continue building pressure.

+   The more pressure we gain, the more closely we must monitor leaks. Excessive use at this stage could cause pressure and volume loss, slowing our progress.

HOW YOU CAN USE WATER
!!!! BOIL ORDER REMAINS IN EFFECT !!!!

Permitted Uses (with Boil Order still in effect):

+   Bathing

+   Flushing Toilets

+   Laundry

Not Recommended (until Boil Order is lifted):

+   Drinking

+   Washing dishes

+   Watering Animals

BUSINESS OPERATIONS

+   Some businesses that require large water usage have been asked to remain closed until tomorrow to help us maintain system stability.

+   Residential customers can begin limited use but should avoid excessive consumption.

BOIL ORDER & WATER TESTING UPDATE

+   Water samples were collected today and submitted for testing.

+   A second round of water samples will be taken tomorrow for further testing.

+   Results are expected this weekend. If all tests pass, the Boil Order will be lifted.

WATER RESTORATION PROGRESS & REPORTING ISSUES

+   Most of the system has been restored, but some customers may still not have water due to isolated issues.

+   If you do not have water by 9 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, please call the:

Tonkawa Emergency Operations Center – Crisis Hotline:
 (580) 628-7011.

LEAK AWARENESS & REPORTING

+   The community must remain vigilant for leaks. If you observe a leak, please report it immediately:

Tonkawa Police Department – (580) 628-2516.

+   Responsible water use and prompt reporting will help us maintain progress toward full restoration.
