Issued By: Sergeant Daniel Boyd, Petaluma PD, (707) 778-4372, Dboyd@cityofpetaluma.org

Incident Summary

On Saturday, March 1st, 2025, at approximately 9:03 AM, personnel from the Petaluma Police Department and Petaluma Fire Department responded to the area of West Payran Street and Graylawn Avenue to investigate a report of a traffic collision. While responding to the collision, officers were advised that one of the vehicles involved had left the scene of the collision in an unknown direction of travel.

Officers and Petaluma Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and located one of the involved drivers still seated in his vehicle needing medical attention. Additional officers searched the area for the driver who had fled the scene but were initially unable to locate him. The driver who remained on scene was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, witnesses in the area observed a male subject walking nearby who matched the description of the subject who had been driving the suspect vehicle that fled. The witnesses alerted nearby officers who detained the man. He was identified as Sonny Ocop (31) out of Santa Rosa. Ocop was determined to be the registered owner of the suspect vehicle and positively identified by witnesses as the driver. His vehicle was later located parked in a driveway of a nearby residence not belonging to Ocop.

As a result of the investigation, Ocop was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. Ocop was placed under arrest for violations of 23153 (a) CVC – DUI Causing Injury, 20001 (a) CVC – Hit and Run Causing an Injury, and 69 PC – Threatening an Officer.
