Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Large Brush Fire Placed Under Control After Multiple Fire Departments Respond 3-1-2025
On Saturday, March 1, 2025 at approximately 9:30 pm a Gloucester Township Police Officer was patrolling the area of Erial Road when he observed a brush fire in the area of Primrose Lane that was also called in by an alert resident.
As Firefighters were arriving it was apparent the gusty wind conditions were causing the fire to spread rapidly, necessitating the need for additional firefighting apparatuses and resources. Due to the swift response from approximately 100 firefighters and first responders from over 20 agencies (State, County and Local), the fire was brought under control without any damage to any adjacent structures or injuries to anyone in the area. Two homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, however the residents have returned home. It is estimated that approximately 40 acres of brush was burned as a result of the fire.
Erial Road was closed for approximately 4 hours while fire suppression efforts were taking place to ensure the safety of first responders operating in the area. Portions of Hickstown Road were also closed intermittently to ensure quick access to wooded areas by the firefighters.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation by State Fire Marshal, Station 86 (Erial) Fire Marshal and the Gloucester Township Police Department. Although there is no imminent danger or hazards reported, there may be some fire apparatus remaining on location to ensure no hot spots flare up overnight.
