SUBJECT: Felony Assault Suspect Arrested
LOCATION: 900 Block King Street, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: March 1, 2025, Approximately 10:06 P.M.
On March 1, 2025, at approximately 10:06 P.M., the Redwood City Police Department received a call reporting a hit-and-run collision. The driver(caller) of the victim vehicle was actively pursuing the suspect vehicle. RCPD Communications obtained the suspect vehicle’s license plate and advised the caller to pull over and wait for officers to respond. Despite repeated instructions to stop following the suspect, the caller continued the pursuit, reaching excessive speeds and disregarding traffic signals and rules of the road.
In the 900 block of King Street, the suspect vehicle pulled over and stopped near a group of pedestrians. The caller, now chasing the suspect, drove toward the group, striking several individuals. At least two adults sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The caller, originally the victim of the hit-and-run but now identified as the suspect, was 19-year-old Redwood City resident Brian Barbatajimaroa. He was arrested for 4 counts of PC 245(a)(1) – assault with a deadly weapon, and booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility.
