Per Polk County Emergency Management/Fire Marshal's Facebook Page:
"9:00am update
More approximate numbers were updated overnight by the North Carolina Forest Service. They estimate currently the fire is 481 acres with 30% containment.
Crews will be starting back burn operations soon and reinforcing fire lines. Crews are still protecting homes in the area.
Please remember the county wide burn ban that is in effect. Also, please continue to avoid the area so crews can continue to work safely.
Please make sure you share accurate information. There are some sites that are showing fire in areas they are not. So make sure before you share information that it is correct. Inaccurate information leads to panic."

Also, please be advised that the Town of Tryon Open Burn Ban is still in effect at this time. No outside burning within city limits until further notice, this includes no fires inside a burn pit. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
