Weekend Standoff Resolved - One Suspect Arrested
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka announced Monday that a standoff over the weekend was resolved safely with the assistance of the Middlesex County Prosecutors Special Operations Response Team (SORT). On Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2 pm police received a call of an assault victim at South Brunswick Square Mall. Officers contacted the victim and learned that the assault had taken place at a residence on Aspen Court in the nearby Wynwood Estates. Officers were advised the suspect had made threats that to harm law enforcement or anyone else who came to his home.
South Brunswick Police officers went to the Aspen Court residence and attempted to contact the suspect, Naseir Zikria age 59. Over the next hour, Zikria refused to come to the door and refused orders to exit his home. Zikria occasionally looked out the windows but rejected attempts to resolve the standoff. Officers determined that Zikria was the only person in the house. He had barricaded himself in the residence and threatened he would have to be taken out in a box. Crisis negotiators from the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office responded and attempted to contact the suspect for several hours. The suspect refused all attempts to communicate with police or exit his residence. Just after 6 pm, Special Operations Response Team members breached the front doorway. Team members took Zikria into custody. Zikria was charged with assault, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest. He was lodged in the Middlesex County Correction Center pending his first court appearance.
“It took several hours, but the incident was resolved safely. The coordination and training of the SORT members along with the South Brunswick officers successfully resolved the standoff,” said Chief Hayducka. He added, “I want to thank the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office Special Operations Response Team for their professionalism in handling the situation.”
