Investigation into Fetus Found in Dumpster 
On Monday, March 3, 2025, at approximately 3:40 p.m., deputies from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and medical personnel responded to a report of a potentially deceased infant found outside a business in the 800 block of South 9th Street, Modesto.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered what appeared to be the remains of a fetus. The area was immediately secured, and the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was called in to assist with the investigation. Investigators are currently processing the scene, canvassing the area for evidence, and working diligently to identify anyone involved with this incident.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified a person of interest and is in the process of questioning them. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has also responded and will conduct an autopsy in the coming days to determine whether the remains are those of a baby, and, if so, to assess the gestational age.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. As more details become available, the Sheriff's Office will provide further updates.
