Wilmington Police have arrested two men on gun and drug charges.
 
On March 3 at approximately 8:09 p.m., members of the Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division and the Gun Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant in the 1900 block of West 3^rd Street in reference to a drug investigation. Police recovered two 9mm handguns, a 12-guage shotgun, 1,818.6 grams of marijuana, drug packaging materials and $1,628 in currency.
 
Police took 26-year-old Jose Gavina and 25-year-old Waldemar Ortiz into custody without incident.
 
Gavina has been charged with the following offenses:

• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Three Counts
• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited – Three Counts
• Possession with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 2 Quantity
• Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 2 Quantity
• Conspiracy (Second Degree)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $82,100 cash-only bail.

Ortiz has been charged with the following offenses:

• Possession with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 2 Quantity
• Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 2 Quantity
• Conspiracy (Second Degree)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was released after posting $7,100 cash-only bail.
