Forney Charged for Moped Chase
Detective Matt Smith with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team charged 30-year-old Christopher Jaren Forney of Marion with felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. He also received misdemeanor charges Resisting a Public Officer, Operating a Vehicle with No Insurance, and Driving While License Revoked (Non-Impaired).
On February 7, Detective Smith attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a moped for traffic violations. Upon activating blue lights and sirens, Forney, who was the driver, did not pull over but instead sped off. Detective Smith followed the moped for a distance in his vehicle and then on foot when Forney entered the woods, but eventually lost sight of him.
A warrant for arrest was taken out on February 7. He was arrested on Feb. 18 for an unrelated incident and taken into custody.
