WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM MST FRIDAY
- WHAT: Heavy snow with additional accumulations between 10 and 20 inches, with locally higher amounts above timberline. Winds gusting up to 60 mph.
- WHERE: Northwest San Juan Mountains and Southwest San Juan Mountains.
- WHEN: Until 11 PM MST Friday.
- IMPACTS:
- Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous.
- Travel could be very difficult to impossible due to snow accumulation and strong winds.
- Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
- Morning and evening commutes may be impacted by hazardous conditions.
- Strong winds could cause tree damage.

- US 550 Red Mountain Pass Closure – Begins 5 PM Thursday, March 6
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will conduct winter maintenance operations on US Highway 550 between Ouray and Silverton beginning at 5 PM on Thursday, March 6.
Expected Traffic Impacts:

Highway closures may last 30 minutes or longer throughout the evening.

Plan ahead and allow extra travel time, or drive through closure points before 5 PM.

Closure times are approximate and depend on snow removal progress and avalanche risk.
Closure Locations:
- Northbound: Closure 10 miles north of Silverton near Red Mountain Pass summit (MP 81).
- Southbound: Closure 10 miles south of Ouray near Idarado Mine (MP 82).
- Flaggers will guide traffic through closure points when safe to proceed.
