INCIDENT: PC 211: ROBBERY
PC 166.1(A)(1): PETTY THEFT WITH 2+ PRIORS
LOCATION: 7-11, 4700 Block of Phelan Road, Phelan
SUSPECT: Michael Hasshaw, 36 years of age, Resident of Rancho Cucamonga
SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 3:25 p.m., deputies responded to a robbery at 7-11 in Phelan. The suspect entered the business, harassed the store clerk, stole candy bars and ran from the location. The store clerk was afraid for her life, believing the suspect had a gun.
Through the investigation, Deputy C. Padilla was able to identify the suspect as Michael Hasshaw. On Tuesday, March 4, 2024, Deputy J. Mora located Hasshaw near Phelan Road and Riggins Road in Phelan. Michael Hasshaw, who is a documented gang member, was arrested without incident and booked at the High Desert Detention Center. He is currently being held in lieu of $150,000.00 bail.
